Managing Your Life
I read an article today in Inside Higher Ed: When Things Fall Apart, by Rob Weir. Today is officially day 1 of my 101 in 1001, and one of my things is to read Inside Higher Ed and the Chronicle of Higher Education daily — for my intellectual and professional development. Rob focuses mainly on advice for faculty, but I think his advice is applicable to all.
Some suggestions to help you find balance between the many domains of life (well, we may not have too many as young adults):
- Acknowledge that things will go wrong at some point in life.
- Learn to say “no” - bolded because seriously…I have trouble with this one.
- Learn the difference between good and good enough - I’m not sure this one sits well with me, but that’s the point, right?
- Tap into your confidence reserves - if you’re pressed for time, don’t let paranoia take over!
- Scale back what you to do only things you MUST do.
One important takeaway:
“One can either make hard choices, or life will make them for you.”
Well, I have work to do.
